Ultrasound is a technology that employs sound waves to create images of organs/tissues. This noninvasive imaging provides very detailed information about organ architecture and can often detect diseases at an earlier stage than radiography. An exam is performed by simply placing the probe on the animal and scanning through the desired tissues. Virtually any organ can be imaged from the heart to the liver to a pregnant uterus. Ultrasound complements radiographs well and enhances any doctor’s diagnostic abilities.
